Forty Hours – Home

On Pentecost Weekend Churches Together in the Lewes Area are hosting a virtual 24/7 prayer event: Forty Hours of Prayer

Thy Kingdom Come

As well as praying for our community, our nation and ourselves, we will be praying ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ for friends and family to come to know Jesus as their friend and God as their father.

Click here for more details of ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.

Welcome to our virtual prayer room.

Browse down this page to learn how you can take part, find ideas and topics for prayer, and join together with others in a Zoom session.

At the bottom of the page is our prayer wall – a place for everyone to post and read encouragements and news as we pray.

We invite you to join us.

Register your interest in Forty Hours of Prayer.

By registering you will receive email updates telling you what will be happening, and you can post on the prayer wall.

As this is a virtual prayer event, you can pray anytime, where you are. We intend to cover the whole forty hours with at least one preson praying every minute. By you telling us when you will be praying, it helps us to ensure that every minute is covered. Of course there is no limit to the number that can pray at any time, so just pick a time, let us know, and we will add your name to the timetable.

Post on the prayer wall

This is be the place to post on the Prayer Wall – your prayers, prophecies, outcomes, and anything else to encourage us.

Apart from the Zoom sessions, we cannot join together to pray, so by posting on the prayer wall, you can let others know how you are praying to help join up our prayers.

You can create a post using a very simple on-screen form. But if you are not confident in doing this, email what you would like to say to robson.mike@gmail.com and we will put it up on the prayer wall for you.

Hold fast to the unchanging Word of God
John Etherton
July 29, 2021
Hold fast to the unchanging Word of God in these troubled times, as we see many organisations and powerful individuals seeking to marginalise Christianity in the market place, and to modify the foundational values of the Gospel. Stand firm on His Word as you witness pressure to accept values, life choices and ideologies as being normal and to be applauded, when the Word of God clearly places such things off that straight and narrow road that leads to life. Jesus said in Matthew 7 v13: 13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Stand up for Biblical values, pray for those who are misled, and don’t be like Elijah, as Paul reminds us in Romans 11: Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”? And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” So pray for Trinity, and call upon the Lord for a godly and upright Rector who will build upon the heritage left by Rev Steve Daughtery, and who will have the courage and anointing to lead our 3 churches into the next phase by being rooted and grounded in the unchanging Word of God.

Salvation for our households and communities
Adenike Hyde
May 23, 2021
Pray that we  may be channels of God’s  grace and salvation to our households. Let us prophesy salvation over our family and our households as Joshua did ( Joshua 24.15) . Let our households include not only our family, but our friends and communities because as Jabez prayed ( 1 Chronicles 4.10) we too  can ask God to enlarge our territory for His glory.

Let the Spirit pour out …

“Then they heard the Lord God walking in the garden during the cool part of the day, and the man and his wife hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden.” Genesis 3.8

Please pray for all who sense God’s presence but hide from him because of shame, blame, fear and sin.

Let the spirit pour out revelation of the love and grace of Christ who died to restore our relationship with our beloved Father, with each other and the whole of creation.

Rend your Heart
Mike Robson
May 22, 2021

Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. …

Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. … Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God? ‘

Then the Lord was jealous for his land and took pity on his people. …

Do not be afraid, land of Judah; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things!

“…For we are the temple of the Living God. As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people….I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters’, says the Lord Almighty.Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”

All He Wants Is You!
Richard Rowland
May 20, 2021
Nicky Gumbel, in his comment in Bible In One Year, 16 May 2021, writes: ‘In his book, ‘All I Want Is You’, Bishop Sandy Millar describes attending a conference in California some years ago at which he saw the Spirit of God working in powerful ways.  When it was over, he went for a long walk along the coast.   He writes, ‘I can honestly claim to have only heard the Lord speak about three times in this way, but as clearly as I have ever heard Him speak, He said, “All I want is you”… It was the most humbling thing… He can do anything he likes.  But all He wants is you.’ Richard Rowland

Here He comes, Lion King

Strangely becoming Easter Lamb

Riding his donkey tank

Firing shells of rose petals into the ranks of armed aggression.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of sacrificial love.

Here he comes, breaker of walls

Crowned with every barb-ed strand of razor wire

That separates us. The bloodied hero,

Demolishing every last bit of our cruel enmity

Making every last adversary our brother or sister, in love.

I hammered alone with naked, bloodied hands,

Unable to break through

Those towering concrete walls of separation.

He came with His bag of dynamite power

That fathered every distant star,

which created the beauty of each tiny flower.

Every last tear is gathered into His bottle,

Every tiny drop of protest, every last footstep of a walk of peace,

He joins into a mighty irresistible flood,

Breaking through every last barrier of separation

And turning every warring enemy

Into His very own loving, eternal friend.

Pray without ceasing

March 23, 2021

One of the themes coming out of our Forty Hours of Prayer has been for

my people, who are called by my name [to] humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways

2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

The word used for wicked can mean ‘unpleasant, noxious, health-sapping’. What is it that the Holy Spirit sees in us? What does He know to be noxious and health-sapping within us, that we are completely unaware of. This is not to condemn ourselves but to humble ourselves and ask that we might see what he sees. He loves us too much to leave any uncleanness within us. He will transform unhealthiness into healing!

He urges us to pester Himself to distraction until we see our land healed:

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

Isaiah 62:6-7 NIV

Bringing in the Harvest
Jackie Stopp
March 20, 2021

The Spirit showed me a harvest field that was ripe, an old fashioned wooden wagon that was no longer fit for purpose to receive the abundant harvested wheat, and then the whole village coming out to help with the harvest together – not just one farmer and his helpers – but everyone helping together, even though it wasn’t their field.

Seeds
Mary Boyum
March 20, 2021

In morning prayer today the idea of “seeds” was shared, and the amazing results that we see around us in nature as flowers blossom from small seeds.

Sometimes our “seeds” can be our hopes, plans or wishes – but they may appear to die.

If they die it is because God has something much more wonderful that He plans to bring out of them, in His time.

The God who created this amazing, intricate universe – so incredible that we will never fathom the last details of it – can safely be trusted with our “seeds”, our hopes, prayers, longings.

We can trust Him.

Amen

Strength in Joy
Christine Angell
March 20, 2021

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

The joy of the Lord is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10

In your presence is fulness of joy.

Psalm 16:11

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

At a time when many of us are probably feeling weary, I was encouraged—and challenged—by these verses that I felt the Lord put on my heart.

Ephesians 4:2-4

March 19, 2021

‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called.’

As I prayed earlier this afternoon I felt drawn to this scripture, which feels in step with some of the prayers in our evening zoom prayer time.  Calling for us to remain united in the church…So it seemed appropriate to share with you.

I feel a challenge for us all in this period of vacancy at church to come together and remain in unity within the church body. Whether we are directly involved in the process or not, we have a shared responsibility to remain united in our church body, guided by the Holy Spirit. Always remembering the shared hope we all have in Jesus.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sins and will heal their land.   Hallelujah! Yes, Lord.

The hour has come!
Mike Robson
March 19, 2021
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. … And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. John 17:1,5 NIV

How can we know if we’ve heard from God or not?
Richard Rowland
March 14, 2021

We noted some weeks ago in a time of prayer, that it’s good to ask God at the start, to show us by His Holy Spirit if there’s any outstanding wrong we need acknowledge, repent of and turn away from?  Having confessed anything that came to mind and received forgiveness, we trust that any thought or impression now coming into our mind is planted there by God and not us!

We will however get it wrong sometimes, being human.  So we need others to test what we think He’s said, and correct or even ignore it completely!  But it’s not a complete disaster to get it wrong if we’re asking God to, accepting that we can all make mistakes, acknowledge them & be forgiven.  We can post anything we think we’ve heard from God on the Prayer Wall.

How do we listen?
Richard Rowland
March 14, 2021

Trying to listen to God involves asking how we can expect to hear from Him. Mostly through
His Word, the Bible? Yes, but we’re told not to assume that’s the only way. Some receive
other gifts of the Spirit, such as words of knowledge, prophecy, other worship-languages and their interpretation. Some get poems or pictures. (1 Cor 12:1-14). Do post on the Prayer Wall anything you feel God has said to you.

We’ve been finding that making an intentional, extended time of silence after reading a
Bible-passage gives God the space to tell us what He wants to say. We’ve got to be willing,
seemingly, to ‘waste’ time listening for God’s still, small voice. Some of us still find it
uncomfortable – it’s counter-cultural! Like the disciples, we too might feel “To what
purpose is this waste (of time!)?” (Mk 14:1-9)

Listening to God
Richard Rowland
March 14, 2021

Some of us are getting glimpses sometimes of learning to listen to God, expecting to hear
Him speak. But as in the story of Martha and Mary (Lk 10:38-42), we’re often more
comfortable to feel, with Martha, that the immediate ‘needs’ are more urgent! We’re more
used to posing the prayer that says “Lord, we need help with this or that important issue!”!

Jesus didn’t rubbish Martha’s request, but equally, commended Mary for having chosen the ‘one thing needful’, to prioritise listening to Him.

Encouragement

Zechariah & Elizabeth had been praying for years & years to have a child. In Luke 1:13, the 1st thing the angel said to him was “YOUR PRAYER HAS BEEN HEARD.” ,

So, if we too have been praying for something for a long time, we can take courage! Our prayer has been heard! And God will answer at the right time, just as He did for Zechariah & Elizabeth.

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Ps 127:1
Mike Robson
March 9, 2021

There are times we can strive and push and keep going to the point of exhaustion to no avail. Unless the Lord is in it, we are wasting our time. We have been created for relationship with God, and as we tap into His guidance for our life we will find divine favour.

As we pray about what we should do, before we do it, God will speak into our Spirit. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. If you feel an incredible peace and a stirring in your spirit, then go for it.

Brighton Prayer Chairs

I’m praying that these thoughts will govern all we do as this Forty Hours of Prayer comes together. As we begin to involve ourselves, we involve ourselves first and foremost with our heavenly Father.
