On Pentecost Weekend Churches Together in the Lewes Area are hosting a virtual 24/7 prayer event: Forty Hours of Prayer
Thy Kingdom Come
As well as praying for our community, our nation and ourselves, we will be praying ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ for friends and family to come to know Jesus as their friend and God as their father.
Click here for more details of ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.
Welcome to our virtual prayer room.
Browse down this page to learn how you can take part, find ideas and topics for prayer, and join together with others in a Zoom session.
At the bottom of the page is our prayer wall – a place for everyone to post and read encouragements and news as we pray.
We invite you to join us.
Register your interest in Forty Hours of Prayer.
By registering you will receive email updates telling you what will be happening, and you can post on the prayer wall.
As this is a virtual prayer event, you can pray anytime, where you are. We intend to cover the whole forty hours with at least one preson praying every minute. By you telling us when you will be praying, it helps us to ensure that every minute is covered. Of course there is no limit to the number that can pray at any time, so just pick a time, let us know, and we will add your name to the timetable.
Post on the prayer wall
This is be the place to post on the Prayer Wall – your prayers, prophecies, outcomes, and anything else to encourage us.
Apart from the Zoom sessions, we cannot join together to pray, so by posting on the prayer wall, you can let others know how you are praying to help join up our prayers.
You can create a post using a very simple on-screen form. But if you are not confident in doing this, email what you would like to say to robson.mike@gmail.com and we will put it up on the prayer wall for you.

Prayer Wall
“In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.” (Psalms 45:4)Lord, grant us a leader who will lead in truth, humility and justice. To your glory.
“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. …
Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. … Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God? ‘ ”
Then the Lord was jealous for his land and took pity on his people. …
Do not be afraid, land of Judah; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things!
Joel 2:12-21 NIV
“…For we are the temple of the Living God. As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people….I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters’, says the Lord Almighty.Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”
Here He comes, Lion King
Strangely becoming Easter Lamb
Riding his donkey tank
Firing shells of rose petals into the ranks of armed aggression.
Blessed is He who comes in the name of sacrificial love.
Here he comes, breaker of walls
Crowned with every barb-ed strand of razor wire
That separates us. The bloodied hero,
Demolishing every last bit of our cruel enmity
Making every last adversary our brother or sister, in love.
I hammered alone with naked, bloodied hands,
Unable to break through
Those towering concrete walls of separation.
He came with His bag of dynamite power
That fathered every distant star,
which created the beauty of each tiny flower.
Every last tear is gathered into His bottle,
Every tiny drop of protest, every last footstep of a walk of peace,
He joins into a mighty irresistible flood,
Breaking through every last barrier of separation
And turning every warring enemy
Into His very own loving, eternal friend.
One of the themes coming out of our Forty Hours of Prayer has been for
my people, who are called by my name [to] humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
The word used for wicked can mean ‘unpleasant, noxious, health-sapping’. What is it that the Holy Spirit sees in us? What does He know to be noxious and health-sapping within us, that we are completely unaware of. This is not to condemn ourselves but to humble ourselves and ask that we might see what he sees. He loves us too much to leave any uncleanness within us. He will transform unhealthiness into healing!
He urges us to pester Himself to distraction until we see our land healed:
I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.
Isaiah 62:6-7 NIV
The Spirit showed me a harvest field that was ripe, an old fashioned wooden wagon that was no longer fit for purpose to receive the abundant harvested wheat, and then the whole village coming out to help with the harvest together – not just one farmer and his helpers – but everyone helping together, even though it wasn’t their field.
In morning prayer today the idea of “seeds” was shared, and the amazing results that we see around us in nature as flowers blossom from small seeds.
Sometimes our “seeds” can be our hopes, plans or wishes – but they may appear to die.
If they die it is because God has something much more wonderful that He plans to bring out of them, in His time.
The God who created this amazing, intricate universe – so incredible that we will never fathom the last details of it – can safely be trusted with our “seeds”, our hopes, prayers, longings.
We can trust Him.
Amen
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31
The joy of the Lord is your strength.
Nehemiah 8:10
In your presence is fulness of joy.
Psalm 16:11
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
At a time when many of us are probably feeling weary, I was encouraged—and challenged—by these verses that I felt the Lord put on my heart.
2 Chron 7:15
“Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”
Maybe a promise from our Lord to show that He sees and hears what we are offering to Him during these 40 hours!
This is a great prayer to pray for ourselves or someone we know.
Read though it line by line, and make it your own prayer.
Some drawings I did while praying.
‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called.’
As I prayed earlier this afternoon I felt drawn to this scripture, which feels in step with some of the prayers in our evening zoom prayer time. Calling for us to remain united in the church…So it seemed appropriate to share with you.
I feel a challenge for us all in this period of vacancy at church to come together and remain in unity within the church body. Whether we are directly involved in the process or not, we have a shared responsibility to remain united in our church body, guided by the Holy Spirit. Always remembering the shared hope we all have in Jesus.
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. … And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. John 17:1,5 NIV
We noted some weeks ago in a time of prayer, that it’s good to ask God at the start, to show us by His Holy Spirit if there’s any outstanding wrong we need acknowledge, repent of and turn away from? Having confessed anything that came to mind and received forgiveness, we trust that any thought or impression now coming into our mind is planted there by God and not us!
We will however get it wrong sometimes, being human. So we need others to test what we think He’s said, and correct or even ignore it completely! But it’s not a complete disaster to get it wrong if we’re asking God to, accepting that we can all make mistakes, acknowledge them & be forgiven. We can post anything we think we’ve heard from God on the Prayer Wall.
Trying to listen to God involves asking how we can expect to hear from Him. Mostly through
His Word, the Bible? Yes, but we’re told not to assume that’s the only way. Some receive
other gifts of the Spirit, such as words of knowledge, prophecy, other worship-languages and their interpretation. Some get poems or pictures. (1 Cor 12:1-14). Do post on the Prayer Wall anything you feel God has said to you.
We’ve been finding that making an intentional, extended time of silence after reading a
Bible-passage gives God the space to tell us what He wants to say. We’ve got to be willing,
seemingly, to ‘waste’ time listening for God’s still, small voice. Some of us still find it
uncomfortable – it’s counter-cultural! Like the disciples, we too might feel “To what
purpose is this waste (of time!)?” (Mk 14:1-9)
Some of us are getting glimpses sometimes of learning to listen to God, expecting to hear
Him speak. But as in the story of Martha and Mary (Lk 10:38-42), we’re often more
comfortable to feel, with Martha, that the immediate ‘needs’ are more urgent! We’re more
used to posing the prayer that says “Lord, we need help with this or that important issue!”!
Jesus didn’t rubbish Martha’s request, but equally, commended Mary for having chosen the ‘one thing needful’, to prioritise listening to Him.
Zechariah & Elizabeth had been praying for years & years to have a child. In Luke 1:13, the 1st thing the angel said to him was “YOUR PRAYER HAS BEEN HEARD.” ,
So, if we too have been praying for something for a long time, we can take courage! Our prayer has been heard! And God will answer at the right time, just as He did for Zechariah & Elizabeth.
There are times we can strive and push and keep going to the point of exhaustion to no avail. Unless the Lord is in it, we are wasting our time. We have been created for relationship with God, and as we tap into His guidance for our life we will find divine favour.
As we pray about what we should do, before we do it, God will speak into our Spirit. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. If you feel an incredible peace and a stirring in your spirit, then go for it.

I’m praying that these thoughts will govern all we do as this Forty Hours of Prayer comes together. As we begin to involve ourselves, we involve ourselves first and foremost with our heavenly Father.
